Secondly, at the level of mass actions we have always striven to raise the level of mass economic activities to open political action of the masses. It has been our constant endeavour to organise armed activities in close relation to developing mass movements and to never allow the gun to command politics. We have all along striven to safeguard the party’s ideological-political and organisational independence in relation to the parties and governments of the bourgeois opposition as well as the social democrats. Thirdly, the first two premises have enabled us to undertake wide ranging united front activities with different kinds of intermediate forces as well as with the social democrats and even with the parties of bourgeois opposition. United front activities range from issue-based joint action to short- or long-term cooperation, depending upon the circumstances.
In all these endeavours our Party operates on two basic principles. First of all, it inherits all that is positive, glorious and revolutionary in over 70 years of the Indian communist movement and seeks to unite all communists in a single Communist Party. The Party only claims to represent the revolutionary stream of the Indian communist movement as against the opportunist stream. It, therefore, rejects all propositions that brand CPI(M-L) as ‘non-traditional’ or ‘new left’ etc.
Secondly, It stands for integrating Marxism-Leninism and Mao Tse-tung Thought with the concrete Indian conditions. We neither believe in blindly copying the Chinese or Russian model on Indian soil nor do we believe in dogmatically reiterating the same slogans in different situations.
These two basic principles have enabled our Party to strengthen its roots in Indian soil, to give a living and creative dimension to the application of Marxism in Indian conditions and to increasingly draw to its fold genuine communists from different parties and groups. Our Party has thus emerged as the most formidable challenge to the social democratic supremacy over the Indian left movement.
Our Party represents the living continuity between the past and the present where glorious traditions of the past are invoked to impart the revolutionary spirit to the tasks of the present while the unfolding dimensions of the present practice are used to critically reexamine the past. And at the end of a quarter century of the long march, the Party enters the realm of the future with redoubled confidence and strength.
All these years thousands of our martyrs laid down their precious lives to chart the course of Indian revolution with their blood. The task still remains unfinished and the march still goes on. On this historic occasion CPI(M-L) rededicates itself to the historic mission of Indian proletariat and calls upon all communists to join the Party and strengthen the cause of Indian revolution.
